ALICE Training Institute shares some startling facts about workplace violence from the Bureau of Labor Statistics - In the past decade, from 2003-2013 there have been 8,987 violent acts resulting in death at the workplace and 51% of these have been gun related. Even if you are the perfect co-worker and shower everyone with kindness and respect, you still may face a potentially deadly situation at work since nearly 80% of workplace homicides don't have anything to do with the workplace at all. With more and more stories of workplace violence, mass shootings and homegrown radicalized terrorist attacks hitting our news feed every morning, it's time to seriously consider being prepared for the worst no matter where you are, even if it means carrying a gun into a gun free zone. Today we discuss the pros and cons of deciding to carry a gun into the most common gun free zone most people will face on a daily basis - the workplace.

It's important to note that we are simply having a discussion of a hypothetical situation and we are NOT advising you to break any laws or any policies that are in place. This is just a discussion of what if and if it's worth it. You are responsible for your own decisions.

The day we are recording this episode it is Veterans Day, so of course we had to bring a Vet in on the podcast. Today Terry Ottinger joins us and recounts his time when he served our country in the United States Navy as a aviation boatswain's mate, third class. Terry operated, maintained, and performed organizational maintenance on catapults, arresting gear, barricades, and associated flight deck launching and recovery equipment on the USS Theodore Roosevelt from 1994 - 1998. Enjoy!

Welcome back to the Wasted Ammo Podcast! It's been a couple weeks since we have released a podcast due to the sudden loss of a family member. I wanted to say thank you to those of you that have sent me messages. Your words, thoughts, and prayers were greatly appreciated during this rough time.

Now that we are back in front of the mic, we thought this would be a great time to refocus Wasted Ammo. Join us today as we have a brain dump about what we want out of Wasted Ammo, the blog, the podcast and most of all, the community.

I would love to see a vibrant community for Wasted Ammo not only on facebook but on the Wasted Ammo website itself. I believe that we can do this by making our listeners part of Wasted Ammo by providing people the opportunity to guest post on a regular basis. If you have a story you want to tell, an experience you want to share, or a diy preparedness project you want to showcase then email us at mailbag@wastedammo.com and we will get it up on the website! Remember, iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another. No person can do or learn everything by themselves so lets share our experiences and knowledge with each other so we can learn, grow, thrive and survive.

Happy Monday everyone! Eric and I are back for part 2 of Is The Good Guy With a Gun a Myth?  If you haven't listened to episode 45 then you should probably stop and listen to that one first because this episode starts off right where the last one stopped. Just as a reminder we are discussing the article posted on Politico in response to the shooting at Umpqua Community College, titled The Myth of the Good Guy With the Gun. We break down the 4 main points of the article and go into our own personal beliefs and thoughts about gun control, the right to be armed, and what we the people need to do for guns to be interwoven back into the fabric of the United States.

We are back in front of the mic after a short break. This episode was actually recorded in conjunction with the Zombie Apocalypse episodes two weeks ago and I planned for it to be released during my trip to Mexico but I just didn't have time to edit and schedule all three episodes that we recorded.

After I got back from vacation I had a death in the family so that set us back another week. So, due to time constraints this is a raw and unedited episode. There are jokes and references that some may find offensive but  it's a glimpse into the Wasted Ammo Studio before all the editing. If you are not a fan of our banter back and forth then this will not be the episode for you - there is a lot of useless but funny stuff in this one.

We will be back in the studio next week so we will be getting back on schedule for everyone. Enjoy.

Today on the Wasted Ammo Podcast Eric and I get back in front of the mic after taking a week off and we talk about the on-air killing of news reporter Alison Parker and Cameraman Adam Ward. WOO!! It's Friday and we have an awesome show for you today - self defense myths that just wont die.  Not only was this an awesome topic but as we dove into each myth, Eric and I reveal a lot about what Wasted Ammo is suppose to be about and why we started it. We aren't experts - we didn't serve, we don't carry for our job, we aren't qualified instructors, we are the average joe striving to be just a little bit better than we were yesterday.
